Creighton lands 2 transfers, including All-AAC First Team guard

Even the retirement of legendary coach Greg McDermott has not hindered Creighton from landing talented players via the transfer portal, as the school acquired a pair of high-upside guards on Tuesday.

McDermott called it quits after 16 seasons with the Bluejays, leading them to 10 appearances in the NCAA Tournament. Some believed that his exit would adversely affect the program’s recruitment, but that has not been the case.

According to on3.com’s Joe Tipton, Wes Enis has committed to Creighton. Enis entered the transfer portal after one year at South Florida.

“The 6-foot-2 junior averaged 21.5 points and 2.5 steals in the AAC Tournament. Knocked down over 100 threes this season and was also All-AAC First Team,” noted Tipton on X.

CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein, meanwhile, reported that Creighton has also acquired BJ Davis, who entered the transfer portal after three years at San Diego State.

Davis averaged 8.6 points, 2.7 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 1.1 steals with the Sun Devils.

Enis and Davis could form the starting backcourt for McDermott’s successor, coach Alan Huss. Enis and Davis, however, will have to learn to share the ball as both of them are high-usage playmakers.

Among the two, the 20-year-old Enis should see more opportunities on the Bluejays, as the team will rely on his shot-making and defensive ability. Before joining South Florida, he had an impressive run during his two years at Lincoln Memorial in NCAA Division II, winning as Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year in the South Atlantic Conference in his sophomore season.

Creighton missed the NCAA Tournament this season, snapping a five-year streak, after stumbling to a 16-18 record, including 9-11 in the Big East.
