Cowboys rumors: Adam Schefter declares George Pickens contract talks going ‘nowhere’
The Dallas Cowboys are ready for the 2026 NFL Draft. Dallas enters the draft with plenty of ammunition, which has analysts cooking up some wild trade possibilities. But with all the focus on the draft, one other Cowboys priority seems to be falling by the wayside.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter gave an update on the status of George Pickens’ contract negotiations, or lack thereof, with Dallas before the draft.
“They’re nowhere with George Pickens right now, NOWHERE with George Pickens,” Schefter declared on Wednesday via Get Up. “They are not really talking about an extension, they’re not close to an extension, they’re not getting a deal done at this point in time. He’s on the franchise tag. That situation is just sitting out there.”
Pickens had a breakout season in 2025, hauling in 93 receptions for 1,429 yards and nine touchdowns. Dallas gave Pickens the franchise tag to keep him around in 2026 and hopefully extend him on a long-term deal.
But Schefter seemed to suggest that Dallas could be willing to add a different wide receiver in the first round.
“The Cowboys are said to really like Jordyn Tyson, so it is just one more subplot in a draft filled with them entering Thursday night,” Schefter concluded.
Ultimately, it is not too concerning that neither side is discussing an extension just yet. Remember, the Cowboys literally waited until the last minute to extend Dak Prescott back in 2024.
That said, the price of Pickens’ extension will only continue to rise if the Cowboys drag their heels. That is something they’ve been more than comfortable doing in the past.
Perhaps Cowboys fans will get some clues from how Dallas operates during the draft later this week.
