Cowboys OC gives Javonte Williams his flowers after breakout season

The Dallas Cowboys should be a team to watch in 2026. Dallas made some big upgrades during the offseason, investing plenty of resources in fixing their dreadful defense. But it is one offensive player who could be the key to a successful 2026 campaign.

Cowboys offensive coordinator Klayton Adams had nothing but good things to say about Javonte Williams in a recent interview.

“First and foremost, I had always been a Javonte Williams fan,” Adams told Ari Meirov. “He came into the league when I was in Indy, loved evaluating him coming out of North Carolina. Loved his physical play style. But the first thing you notice when you’re around Javonte is like, this guy’s an adult. He is very mature, he’s very smart. I’m really into guys who are great teammates and that dude is a great teammate.”

The Cowboys signed Williams to a one-year contract during the 2025 free agency cycle. He rewarded Dallas with a breakout season, logging 252 carries for 1,201 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns. Dallas was so impressed that they gave Williams a three-year extension earlier this offseason.

One reason why Adams loves Williams is because of his incredible versatility.

“His game is extremely well-rounded,” Adams continued. “He’s a good pass protector, he’s got a fundamental game out of the backfield. We’re not really restricted on just being a between the tackles team with him because he was relatively efficient with some of our outside zone stuff.”

Cowboys fans should not be surprised if Williams receives plenty of touches again during his second season in Dallas.

“I have a lot of admiration for the guy, he’s certainly one of my favorites,” Adams concluded.

It will be exciting to see if Williams can repeat with another incredible season in 2026.
