Cowboys HC Brian Schottenheimer makes snarky comment about World Cup at AT&T Stadium

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is underway, and the tournament is using multiple NFL stadiums across the country to play games. AT&T Stadium, the home of the Dallas Cowboys, is one of the stadiums being used, and the organization changed the turf to grass and installed tinted windows to reduce the sun glare on the field. From the sounds of it, head coach Brian Schottenheimer doesn’t like it one bit.

While talking with media members on Tuesday, Schottenheimer, who is 52 years old, offered a sarcastic response when discussing World Cup games being played in AT&T Stadium and the changes the Cowboys made to accommodate FIFA, according to Jon Machota of The Athletic. The soon-to-be second-year coach claims the changes make the stadium less majestic.

“It’s not as majestic,” said Schottenheimer about the stadium changes… “[Soccer fans are] gonna miss the experience.”

While the stadium may have lost some of its magic with the changes, fans have seemingly enjoyed their time watching World Cup games in Dallas. Viral videos on social media have shown foreigners from all over the world soaking in the Texas experience and having the time of their lives watching the games in AT&T Stadium.

The Cowboys will have their stadium back come mid-July. AT&T Stadium will host World Cup games through the semi-final round. It is expected that the franchise will go back to using a turf field and remove the tinted windows before the start of the 2026-27 season.

Until then, the Cowboys will focus on mandatory minicamp, which began on Tuesday. When that ends on June 18, the team will enjoy a short break before returning for training camp in late July.
