Coventry joined by darts star in dressing room during raucous Championship title celebrations

Coventry finally got their hands on the Championship trophy as they wildly celebrated their return to the Premier League in their final home match.

The title may be made of sterling silver, but they buzzed over ‘Titanium’ in the dressing room as PDC star Stephen Bunting joined in with their festivities.

A 3-1 victory over promotion-chasing Wrexham in the club’s penultimate game of the campaign ensured it was a dream afternoon for fans at the CBA Arena.

The Sky Blues secured their return to the top-flight after 25 years as a result of their 1-1 draw away at Blackburn on April 17.

And they wrapped up the league title by smashing Portsmouth 5-1 on home soil earlier in the week.

On Sunday, it was Wrexham’s turn to be on the receiving end of a one-sided defeat at the hands of Coventry – despite the Welsh outfit threatening to spoil the party.

Brandon Thomas-Asante opened the scoring in the 19th minute as he tapped home from close range, before the visitors equalised through Oliver Rathbone’s low-drilled effort six minutes later.

Victor Torp then put the hosts back in front with a dipping free-kick ten minutes from time, with Ephron Mason-Clark sealing the win in stoppage time.

And it was immediately party time as the players got their hands on the trophy, before parading it around the pitch to their joyous supporters.

The celebrations continued into the dressing room, where Bunting’s iconic walk-on song – ‘Titanium’ by David Guetta – was played out loud on the speakers.

As the camera was fixated on the entrance of the home changing room, the 2014 BDO world champion walked out – to the delight of the squad and staff.

Belting out the song as if he was on stage to his adoring darts fans, the Coventry squad sang with him.

The Liverpool fan then greeted and shook the hands of every player as the squad serenaded him with a chant of, ‘Let’s go Bunting mental.’

And he then posed for group pictures with the Coventry players, with one image even showing him holding the trophy alongside academy graduate Josh Eccles.

Bunting told talkSPORT earlier this week how he had been invited along to watch Coventry this weekend.

Speaking ahead of Premier League Night 12, the 41-year-old said: “Coventry City have been in touch.

“They want me to go down on Sunday and have a game with some of the players which would be interesting and get them ready for the Premier League next year.”

Their link-up is all to do with Bunting’s walk-on song, which has been adopted by Coventry during their travels across the United Kingdom.

He added: “They were on the team bus and they were doing the Titanium and the whole bus was singing it, so I think that’s where that’s come about. 

“It’d be great to go down and see some of the lads and have a game of darts with them and congratulate them all because it’s such an achievement what they’ve done, getting into the Premier League and now the big job for them is to stay in it.”

Few would have backed Coventry to seal Premier League promotion when Frank Lampard was appointed in November 2024.

Sitting in 17th spot and battling relegation, Lampard guided Coventry to fifth spot, where they would lose to Sunderland in the play-offs.

And they have went one better this time around, with the Chelsea legend praising the fans for their continued support in the last two decades; particularly low points seeing the club falling into administration in 2013 – and get relegated to League Two in 2017.

Addressing the supporters on the pitch, Lampard said: “The biggest thing is the football club is only as big as the people who support it.

“You’ve been down a lot, you’ve been to different stadiums, because when you’re born this way, you’re never going to change. You’ve gone through everything.

“One of the biggest pleasures we get as a group is giving you the joy of this moment. This moment is yours.”

Coventry conclude their Championship campaign away at Watford on Saturday.
