Conor Benn’s opponent Regis Prograis addresses rumours he is ‘badly injured’

The boxing rumour mill has been in overdrive during the lead-up to Conor Benn’s upcoming clash with Regis Prograis.

Benn and Prograis will act as chief support for Tyson Fury‘s comeback fight against Arslanbek Makhmudov on Saturday night at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Rumours have circulated that Prograis is carrying an injury into his fight with Benn

Last month, whispers began to spread around boxing circles that two-time super lightweight world champion Prograis had picked up a serious injury.

Those rumours were only exacerbated by Prograis’ decision not to address them.

However, the American has now finally broken his silence during an interview with Sean Zittel and Radio Rahim.

“Nothing is going on with me, I don’t even know where that came from,” said Prograis.

“Maybe somebody out there is trying to stop the fight or whatever, and they are saying things like that.

“I’m good. I’m good to fight, for sure…

“I didn’t even address it because I don’t have to.

“Let people think what they want, maybe Conor can think that.

“Then his approach can be different if he thinks I’m hurt.

“I don’t feel like I need to address anything because they aren’t paying me extra for anything.

“No promotion, all I have to do is show up and fight.”

One of the most prominent peddlers of the rumour has been Eddie Hearn, who recently endured an acrimonious split with Benn.

He told iFL TV: “Regis Prograis shouldn’t be in the ring, he is that badly injured.

“Everybody knows about Regis Prograis, and I’m not gonna discredit Regis Prograis or the fight. Everyone knows the situation.”

Responding to Hearn’s comments, Prograis added: “Eddie said, ‘Oh, he’s injured, he’s this.’

“Like, why would Eddie go and say that? What’s the purpose? Why is he trying to do it?

“Maybe because Eddie did promote both of us, and so he’s not in this, so maybe that’s why.”
