Commanders urged to draft Jeremiyah Love if he falls even amid WR questions
The Washington Commanders are currently counting down the days until the NFL Draft, which is slated to get underway next week. The Commanders hold the seventh pick in the first round after a tough 2025 season that saw them miss the playoffs altogether on the heels of their surprise run to the NFC Championship Game the previous year.
Recently, ESPN NFL insider Louis Riddick broke down who he thinks the team should draft at number seven: former Notre Dame running back and Heisman Trophy finalist Jeremiyah Love.
“If Jeremiyah Love falls to 7 you have to take him. He’s not just a back, he’s a weapon…I know the Brandon Aiyuk stuff is hanging out there, but I think WR has to be the No. 1 position they’re looking at,” he said, per JP Finlay of NBC4 Sports on X, formerly Twitter.
As Riddick mentioned, the Commanders have been heavily linked to disgruntled San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk in a trade, although as of yet, nothing has materialized on that front. The wide receiver room was one of the many areas that underperformed for Washington this past year, with Terry McLaurin not exactly vindicating the huge deal that he signed with the team the previous offseason.
Love would give the Commanders an immediate injection of speed and playmaking ability, not only as a running back, but also as a wide receiver, and figures to become one of the top players in the league at his position relatively soon into his NFL career.
In any case, the NFL Draft is slated to get underway beginning on April 23 from Pittsburgh, when the Commanders will officially be on the clock.
