There’s no lingering concern from Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton about Bo Nix’s injury, and the team is hyped about his new receiver. However, could a potential Super Bowl season have gotten off on shaky footing? NFL players getting on a boat together brings up a lot of bad memories for the league. Included in the mix was the Vikings’ scandal back in 2005. Four players were charged in that incident, according to the Associated Press via ESPN.

“Quarterback Daunte Culpepper and three other Minnesota Vikings were charged Thursday with three misdemeanors each for taking part in a bawdy boat party earlier this season on Lake Minnetonka,” the story said. “Culpepper, Bryant McKinnie, Fred Smoot, and Moe Williams were charged with indecent conduct, disorderly conduct, and lewd or lascivious conduct, according to court papers.”

Boats and teammates have an NFL stigma

Included in the mix was the infamous Giants trip in 2017.

Eli Manning recently admitted that the optics weren’t good for that trip, according to Bussin’ With the Boys via Sports Illustrated.

“I was not invited on the boys’ trip to Miami,” the two-time Super Bowl MVP jokingly told Will Compton and Taylor Lewan while appearing on the Bussin’ With The Boys podcast. “Wouldn’t have gone anyway. I don’t think. I don’t think they prepared to go to Miami. They’re all on a boat in jeans and Timberlands. I think it was a last-second deal.

“It’s just a bad look. It’s just kind of the psyche around it. ‘Hey, it’s playoff time, let’s take it up another notch. Get more focused. More serious. Not let’s go party in Miami.’ ”

Maybe the Broncos excursion will never rise to the level of league-wide interest. But it didn’t fall short of bringing up bad NFL memories.
