Colorado’s Deion Sanders got emotional with Shedeur Sanders at Buffs’ season opener

It was one of the days to remember for Colorado football head coach Deion Sanders after his team beat Georgia Tech in the season opener. However, the sideline appearance of his son, Shedeur Sanders, is what brought tears to the veteran football coach.

After the game, Coach Prime could not contain his true emotions seeing his son on the sidelines.

“I’m a father; I think y’all forget that. Y’all see a coach, you subscribe. You see someone that has dabbled with success in certain areas of life. Some of them have gotten made up, and they’ve made up a few mistakes as well. But y’all forget I’m a real loving, caring father, and that’s my son, so I feel it,” he earlier said.

“For him to get out of practice and make it to this game, I think he’s going to fly back to Washington to stay a couple of days. Like, I love that,” he added. “I love fatherhood. I really do,” he said via Oliver Hayes of The Buff Stampede.

The victory was significant in many ways for the Colorado football program. The 14-13 win over Georgia Tech in their 2026 season opener, with a go-ahead touchdown in the final minute of the fourth quarter, was the first such occurrence since 2012.

Additionally, the victory also marked Sanders’ third blocked field goal as Colorado’s coach, contributing to a dramatic defensive stand in a tight contest. More than anything, he was touched by finding his talented son pulling up to his game.

The Buffaloes next play the Weber State Wildcats on Saturday, September 12, at Folsom Field in Boulder.
