Colorado beats out Deion Sanders’ alma mater Florida State for prized JUCO DL

Colorado football is putting together an aggressive recruiting push after landing four-star quarterback Andre Adams in April. This time Deion Sanders and the Buffaloes beat out his alma mater Florida State for prized junior college defensive lineman Malachi Brown.

The standout from Monterey Peninsula College in Northern California chose the Buffaloes Saturday evening. Brown confirmed the decision with Allen Trieu of On3/Rivals and included that FSU plus West Virginia was in the mix.

“They said I fit perfectly,” Brown shared to Trieu. “Just come in there, put your head down and work your ass off to get what you deserve.”

He adds that playing at the junior college level handed him the mindset of not taking handouts. Brown wants to earn everything. He’s eligible to participate in summer workouts as a spring grad.

Brown rises as a brand-new College Football Recruiting win for a Colorado program often ridiculed for its recruiting efforts. He’s a late addition for the 2026 class, but adds to some impressive offseason victories from Coach Prime and company.

The Buffaloes once fell below No. 70 in team rankings for the 2027 class. But are now No. 41 per On3/Rivals after landing more than Adams. Colorado pulled in former Alabama linebacker commit Ba’Roc Willis on Monday. The Buffaloes then pulled off the major coup of winning over four-star safety from Pittsburgh Gabe Jenkins Wednesday.

Colorado wasn’t through adding to the 2027 class, though. Orem, Utah three-star cornerback Will Rasmussen came next following Jenkins. Now Brown adds to the sudden aggressive push Colorado is delivering under Coach Prime.
