The Pittsburgh Steelers have lost four of their past six games and are now tied with the Baltimore Ravens atop the AFC North. Multiple players have publicly questioned the offense and overall scheme, reigniting conversations about head coach Mike Tomlin‘s future with the franchise.

Pittsburgh is not considered a legitimate playoff contender based on its current performance. Moreover, analyst Colin Cowherd recently expressed a big concern about Tomlin.

“Mike Tomlin and the Steelers have not had a losing season in 21 seasons. But there’s a story this morning. Is the hot seat heating up? Well, he hasn’t won a playoff game in eight years. He would be fired if he was the Eagles’ coach or the Cowboys’ coach. He would be fired if he was the New England coach, the San Francisco coach, the Green Bay coach. He’d be fired if he was the Ravens coach. But in Pittsburgh, it’s old school,” Cowherd said.

Cowherd drew a comparison to the Los Angeles Clippers, who hold the NBA’s longest streak of non-losing seasons yet remain overshadowed by the Los Angeles Lakers. He viewed the Steelers’ pride in the statistic as emblematic of a mindset where tradition supersedes ambition and progress stalls in the shadow of past achievements.

He suggested a complete reset rather than incremental fixes. He believed Pittsburgh should consider bottoming out to secure a franchise quarterback in the NFL Draft.

Cowherd recalled that legendary coaches such as Bill Belichick and Andy Reid faced dismissal despite their legacies, implying that no accomplishment should make someone untouchable.

The Pittsburgh organization shows no indication of making drastic changes immediately. However, if the on-field performance does not improve significantly, questions about Tomlin’s tenure in Pittsburgh may intensify.
