Christian McCaffrey Has Joined Historic RB Company

The San Francisco 49ers trusted Christian McCaffrey to get the job done against his former team. As it usually happens, that turned out to be the right decision.
McCaffrey toted the rock 24 times for 89 rushing yards and a touchdown, adding seven receptions on as many targets for 53 yards. The Niners won 20-9, and McCaffrey wrote his name in history books with that performance:

Kyle Shanahan’s team needed to rally around their star running back. Brock Purdy was erratic in the win, completing just 23 of 32 passes for 193 yards, one touchdown, three interceptions, and a 58.5 passer rating. As such, McCaffrey was instrumental in making sure this team took care of business in a game that was a little closer than most people expected.
McCaffrey has earned enough merits to be in the running for Offensive Player of the Year again this season. Through 12 games, he’s up to 217 carries for 796 rushing yards and seven touchdowns. If that wasn’t enough, he’s also hauled in 81 receptions on 103 targets for 785 receiving yards and five touchdowns.
He’s put up better numbers as a pass catcher than some wide receivers, and he could even make a case for being an All-Pro at both wide receiver and running back this season. More importantly, he’s been fully healthy, which has been a major issue with him throughout the course of his career.
The Niners will now travel to Ohio to visit the Cleveland Browns on Sunday. And with their elite defense putting pressure on Brock Purdy, McCaffrey will be crucial again for Kyle Shanahan’s offense.
