Chris Paul issues response as Clippers release statement and bizarrely sever ties and send superstar home
The Los Angeles Clippers have parted ways with Chris Paul.
The 40-year-old was sent home by the Clippers late on Tuesday night, mid-way through their five-game road trip.

“We are parting ways with Chris and he will no longer be with the team. We will work with him on the next step of his career,” the Clippers said in a statement, via NBA insider Chris Haynes.
“Chris is a legendary Clipper who has had a historic career. I want to make one thing very clear. No one is blaming Chris for our underperformance.
“I accept responsibility for the record we have right now. There are a lot of reasons why we’ve struggled. We’re grateful for the impact Chris has made on the franchise.”
The Clippers’ stunning move to sever ties with the 21-year veteran even came as a huge shock to Paul, who posted on his Instagram story: ” Just Found Out I’m Being Sent Home
”
The 12-time NBA All-Star revealed in November that the 2025-26 season would be his final.
He cited wanting to end his career in Los Angeles, where he had spent six years from 2011-17 as part of ‘Lob City’ with Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan.
But the Clippers, now spearheaded by Kawhi Leonard and James Harden, have found wins difficult to come by, and sit at 5-16, and 14th in the Western Conference standings.
Now, Paul’s retirement tour will have to continue with another team.
