Chris Evert will not be in London with ESPN due to ovarian cancer

Tennis legend and broadcaster Chris Evert will not be part of ESPN’s Wimbledon coverage next week after revealing that her ovarian cancer has returned.

In a post on her social media accounts, Evert announced that she recently learned the cancer had returned following CT and PET scans. She said she has already undergone surgery and will begin chemotherapy in the coming weeks.

Her full statement is below.

I have always believed in being open and honest about my health journey.

This past weekend, after undergoing CT and PET scans, I learned that my ovarian cancer has returned.

I have already undergone surgery as the first step in my treatment and recovery, and will begin chemotherapy in the coming weeks.

Because of this, I will not be attending Wimbledon this year, and I will step back from my professional commitments over the next few months to focus on my health.

Ovarian cancer is relentless, but I will stay optimistic and determined in continuing to fight this battle. I am deeply grateful to my medical team, my family, friends, and everyone who has reached out with kindness and encouragement.

I look forward to seeing everyone again soon.

Evert, who was scheduled to serve as a commentator during Wimbledon from June 29 through July 12, was first diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2022. She later announced she was cancer-free before revealing a recurrence in 2023. In July 2024, Evert shared that she was once again cancer-free after completing treatment, making this the third public update on her battle with the disease.
