Chris Broussard calls out Chet Holmgren for ‘not getting it done’ vs. Spurs

On Monday’s edition of FS1’s First Things First, Chris Broussard did not mince words about the play of Chet Holmgren in the Thunder’s Western Conference Finals series against the San Antonio Spurs. Through the first four games of the series, Holmgren struggled on offense, only scoring 10 points in Game 4.

Broussard believes that with Jalen Williams out due to his hamstring injury and Ajay Mitchell dealing with the calf strain, Chet Holmgren should increase his level of play.

“You know, like Shai knows, he not carrying his weight. He is just not getting it done. And when they have their second-best player, Jalen Williams, out, you got the guy who was filling in for him admirably, J- Ajay Mitchell out, Chet has got to step up.”

Broussard believes that Holmgren’s play is diminishing due to the impact of Victor Wembanyama, who uses the same set of skills as he does.

“Now, I think for Chet, his entire life- Anybody his size that he’s played against, even close to his size, he’s been- Chet’s been a better ball handler, been a better shooter, been more athletic than him. Right. He’s just been dominant. Now, not only is the guy his size, he’s bigger, and he does everything better than you. He’s intimidated. Clearly, and I think even if they win this series or win the championship, Chet’s gonna have to do some soul-searching this summer, this off-season.”

In postgame comments obtained by Justin Martinez of The Oklahoman, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander spoke about an adjustment the team needs to make heading into Game 5, which is getting him more involved in the flow of the offense.

“Chet is an easy target to find, so probably just finding him more in the dunker or when he’s spacing. Just put him in better positions to use his strengths as an offensive talent. I don’t know exactly what that looks like because I just got done playing. But watching film, we’ll find ways, for sure.
