Chris Bosh declares Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant as ‘ring chasers’ in defense of LeBron James
The news that LeBron James will be playing for the Philadelphia 76ers is still a surprise for many. One of those many is Chris Bosh, but at the same time, he isn’t all that shocked at James’ decision.
Bosh, a former Miami Heat teammate with James, believed Miami would be the ideal location, but is content with James’ choice, per Sam Yip of HoopsHype.
“I’m surprised, but I’m not surprised. You know, that was just my best pick,” Bosh said. “I was like, hey, if I’m doing something, I’m going to go to Miami, if it was me.”
However, Bosh is defending James amid accusations that he is “ring chasing” and named Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant as having done the same thing. In other words, Jordan and Bryant were all about winning championships.
“But Philly was a pretty good choice, too. So a lot of people call it ring chasing. Everybody chases rings. If you didn’t think Kobe and Jordan were ring chasers too, you’re crazy. [Laughs] Everybody wants a ring. I’ll chase a ring right now. [Laughs].”
Bosh and James played alongside Dwyane Wade for the Heat from 2010 to 2014. They made it to the NBA Finals from 2011 to 2014 and won two championships (2012, 2013).
Today, James will play alongside Tyrese Maxey, Joel Embiid, and Jaylen Brown. Furthermore, James will take a backseat role as a facilitator rather than the leading scorer.
The 76ers lucked out amid some strong competition from the Heat, Golden State Warriors, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Minnesota Timberwolves.
