Peter Woods has only just been drafted into the NFL, but he has already rewarded his family.

The defensive tackle was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs with the 29th overall pick of the 2026 NFL Draft.

The former Clemson tackle turned heads at his draft watch party on Thursday with his family and friends all donning white.

Instead of being held at Woods’ family home, the draft party took place in a Maserati dealership in Atlanta.

After hearing his name called out, Woods – who has been likened to that of an Aaron Donald-like talent – celebrated with his family by purchasing both his mother and sister a brand new Maserati SUV.

“They’ve been two women in this process who have really reached out and checked on me,” Woods told Palmetto Sports. “But forget the process. That’s my mom and my sister, you know what I’m saying?

“They’ve really been there for me when the door was closed and the lights were off and people didn’t really know what was going on. But they knew.

“Sometimes I don’t always vocalize that. Sometimes I’m busy, so I really felt like it was important to go big and make it hit home for them because they certainly deserve it.”

The vehicles are estimated to cost between $80,000 and $100,000 each, meaning Woods has already dropped approximately $200,000.

Woods stands to make $17.3 million over the course of his four-year rookie contract and enjoyed lucrative NIL deals in college.

That equates to $4.3 million per year, with the 21-year-old slated to earn a $9 million signing bonus.

“I thought it was important that we address the defense,” Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said of drafting Woods.

“That’s an important side of the ball, as much as I love the offense. We had some vacancies there that we needed to take care of. That’s the way we felt going in.”

Woods going to be a ‘sponge’ for Chris Jones

Woods joins a defensive unit that is spearheaded by six-time All-Pro defensive tackle Chris Jones.

Jones is one of the very best – if not the best – in his position in the entire NFL, giving the young DT an opportunity that few other players get – to develop and learn from a future Hal of Famer.

“I’m blessed to be in a room with Chris Jones and be under Andy Reid, who has done it so many times,” Woods said.

“I think I have the talent, the mindset and the leadership skills and capabilities to come in and make an impact immediately.

“We’re talking about a future Hall of Famer. I’m going to be a sponge from the moment I step into the door.”

With Kansas City having also traded up in the draft to No. 6 overall to select LSU cornerback Mansoor Delane, they have addressed their glaring holes on defense following the departures of All-Pro corner Trent McDuffie, Jaylen Watson and Bryan Cook.

This was only the second time in franchise history that the Chiefs had selected two defenders in the first round, the first time being back in 2022 when they traded up for McDuffie and picked up defensive end George Karlaftis.

The pair were crucial in helping Patrick Mahomes and co to win back-to-back Super Bowl titles in 2023 and 2024.

General manager Brett Veach is hoping Delane and Woods can have just as much of an instant impact, if not more.

“We expect these guys to be impact players right out of the gate,” Veach said. “That was one of the things.

“We want to get younger and deeper, but we also don’t want to redshirt guys. We identified two guys that we think can come in right away and help us.”
