Chiefs pay tribute to JuJu Smith-Schuster after Giants signing

The Kansas City Chiefs recently saw former team wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster depart the franchise to sign a free agent deal with the New York Giants. The signing strains the Chiefs’ wide receiver depth, which was already a bit thin thanks to the ongoing legal troubles of Rashee Rice.

Now, the team has taken to X, formerly Twitter, to share a tribute for Smith-Schuster.

Smith-Schuster may not have been quite the same player that he was during his run with the Pittsburgh Steelers, but he was still a solid downfield option for Patrick Mahomes during his two stints with the Chiefs, the first of which included a Super Bowl win over the Philadelphia Eagles.

In that game, it was Smith-Schuster who drew a huge holding penalty on the Eagles’ defense in the closing seconds to put the Chiefs in position to kick what would become the game-winning field goal.

Now, Smith-Schuster joins a Giants team that had already made headlines by reuniting with franchise icon Odell Beckham Jr. earlier in the day on Monday.

Meanwhile, the Chiefs will have to pivot in their wide receiver room, and it’s unclear if the team is looking to make any splashes on the free agent market in that department as the offseason continues. One big name still out there is Stefon Diggs, who was released by the New England Patriots after helping lead them to the Super Bowl last season.

The Chiefs should also be able to rely more heavily on the running game this year after signing Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker III away from the Seattle Seahawks in free agency.

In any case, the Chiefs are slated to kick off their 2026 season on September 14 at home against the Denver Broncos.
