Chiefs DBs coach has misdemeanor battery case dismissed in court

Last month, Kansas City Chiefs defensive backs coach Dave Merritt was charged with misdemeanor domestic battery following a complaint leveled against him that accused him of causing bodily harm to a daughter.

After pleading not guilty during a court appearance and being released on  $2,500 bond with strict conditions of having no contact with the victim of the alleged crime, he’s learned his legal fate.

According to NFL Insider Mike Garafolo, Merritt has had the case dismissed against him by the District Court of Johnson County.

“The District Court of Johnson County (Ks.) has dismissed the case against Chiefs defensive backs coach David Merritt, who had been arrested on a misdemeanor charge,” wrote Garafolo on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“The DA’s office looked at it a little more thoroughly and reviewed some additional information,” Merritt’s attorney, Ryan Ginie, told Garafolo. “They agreed, ‘it was a matter that should be dismissed.’”

Last Saturday, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said that Merritt has been “very up front” with everything that allegedly took place.

“Dave’s been very up-front with everything,” Reid said during his press conference last Saturday via Arrowhead Pride. “We’re still going through that whole procedure.”

“In this case, you always let the law enforcement part take care of itself and work its way out. And so that’s where we’re at right now, but we’re aware, and we’ve had communication with both sides there, with the law enforcement side and Dave.”

Merritt has worked with the Chiefs since 2019 and helped them win multiple Super Bowl titles.
