Chicago rookie sets franchise record amid loss vs. Tempo

The Chicago Sky are coming off a loss to the Toronto Tempo, a loss that dropped them under .500 at 3-4 during the early goings of the regular season. But despite the loss, there was reason for optimism from the Sky side as rookie Sydney Taylor set a franchise record in scoring, the team announced.

With 27 points against the Tempo, not only was it Sydney Taylor’s career-high thus far, but it was also a franchise record for quickest player in Sky history to score at least 27 points. It took Taylor only five games to reach that mark. Although the Sky have played seven games to date, the rookie guard has only appeared in five.

Against the Tempo, Taylor shot 9-of-22 from the field, 3-of-12 from the 3-point line and a perfect 6-of-6 from the free-throw line in 23 minutes off the bench. She also added two rebounds, two assists and one steal.

On the season, she’s averaging 9.6 points, 1.0 rebounds and 1.0 assists with splits of 32.6 percent shooting from the field, 22.2 percent shooting from the 3-point line and 87.5 percent shooting from the free-throw line.

Taylor’s playing time has progressively increased since the start of the season, and prior to the Tempo game, she’s had been coming off what was previously her best outing so far. Despite a loss to the Minnesota Lynx, she dropped what was then a career-high 11 points in a little over 19 minutes.

The Sky signed the former UMass and Louisville standout as a free agent in the offseason and she made the team’s final roster out of training camp. She went undrafted in the 2024 WNBA Draft and had played overseas since then. Her addition to the team was part of a major roster overhaul for the Sky.
