Celtics’ Jaylen Brown reveals secret to career season that smashes doubters to pieces
The Boston Celtics have blown away expectations so far during the 2025-26 NBA season, closing in on securing the number two seed in the Eastern Conference despite playing most of the year without Jayson Tatum. Stepping up in Tatum’s absence was star Jaylen Brown, who put together by far the best season of his career this year, and will likely nab a few MVP votes in a few weeks.
Recently, Brown broke down how the Celtics’ many doubters heading into this season helped motivate him to perform at his best level.
“I feel like when my back is against the wall and the world is against [me], that’s when you get the best version of me,” Browns said, per Ramona Shelburne of ESPN. “That’s where you get the chance to see what you’re made of.
“Even if it’s not really true. Even if the world isn’t really against you. If you feel like that and you isolate yourself, that’s where growth takes place. One of my favorite quotes is, ‘If you want to make a man great, isolate him.'”
Brown has played like a man possessed throughout the 2025-26 season, using his rare combination of size, athleticism, and shooting touch to torch opposing defenses, all while helping some of his younger Celtics teammates who have slid into a bigger role this year in their development.
The star has also done an admirable job of adapting his game since Tatum’s return last month, although he still figures to be the number one option down the stretch of the season and into the playoffs for Boston.
Unfortunately, Brown will be out of the lineup when the Celtics next hit the floor on Friday evening for a road game against the New York Knicks.
