Celtics’ Jaylen Brown pulls off wild feat that Larry Bird did four times

Jaylen Brown has flourished as the Boston Celtics’ number one option throughout the 2025-26 season, as even with Jayson Tatum’s return, the offensive pecking order in Beantown is clear. Brown has expanded his game that he’s become much a much-improved playmaker, but on the scoring column is where he still butters his bread.

On Tuesday night, Brown put up another excellent scoring night, recording 35 points on 13-29 shooting to lead the Celtics’ comeback efforts in a hard-fought 113-102 victory over the Charlotte Hornets. And in so doing, Brown crossed the 2,000-point mark for the 2025-26 season — the first time in his career that he’s done so.

He needed just 20 points on the night to join an exclusive club in Celtics history; Brown became just the eighth player in franchise history to score at least 2,000 points in a season, as per team insider Taylor Snow. He joined Larry Bird, who accomplished the feat four times, Paul Pierce (four times), John Havlicek (twice), Tatum (twice), Sam Jones, Kevin McHale, and Isaiah Thomas in that very lofty company.

On the season, Brown is averaging around 28.8 points per game, and he’s been mostly healthy this season for the Celtics. He definitely has a shot to make First Team All-NBA, especially with all the injuries around the association.

Celtics lock in with the playoffs beckoning

The Celtics, in all likelihood, are going to be the second-seeded team in the Eastern Conference. That is such a major win, especially when many expected them to fall off a bit with Tatum out and the rest of the roster being on the receiving end of a makeover due to tax concerns.

Last season, the Celtics slipped on a banana peel in the second round of the playoffs against the New York Knicks. They will be looking to rectify that mistake of theirs with the playoffs set to begin in less than two weeks.
