Celtics fans troll 76ers fans with ‘We want Boston’ chants at end of Game 1 blowout

On Sunday afternoon, the Boston Celtics hit the floor for the first game of their 2026 NBA playoff run against the Philadelphia 76ers. To say that the Celtics performed well in this one would be an understatement, as Boston dominated this contest from start to finish and ended up walking home with a 123-91.

The 76ers clinched their spot in this game with a win over the Orlando Magic in the play-in tournament earlier in the week, at the end of which Philadelphia fans began chanting “We want Boston.”

Toward the end of Sunday’s Game 1, Celtics fans in attendance at the TD Garden trolled the 76ers by repeating the same phrase.

It was a cool moment for Celtics fans who have watched their team dominate the 76ers in recent postseasons, defeating Philadelphia in 2018, 2020, and 2023. Heading into the season, the Celtics were viewed by many as a likely play-in team due to the injury absence of Jayson Tatum, but instead, Philadelphia ended up participating in the play-in tournament, while Boston cruised to the second seed in the East.

Tatum, of course, rejoined the fray down the stretch of the season, much earlier than many had anticipated, and had a strong game on Sunday afternoon, scoring an efficient 25 points in the win to go along with 11 rebounds and seven assists.

If the Celtics can get even 80 percent of what Tatum offers when fully healthy, they figure to not only get by the 76ers with ease, but have a real chance at winning their second NBA championship in the last three seasons.

In any case, Game 2 of Boston vs Philadelphia is set for Tuesday evening at 7:00 pm ET, once again in Boston.
