Carlos Alcaraz’s French Open 3-peat chances over amid wrist injury
Spanish tennis sensation and current World No. 2 Carlos Alcatraz has officially withdrawn from the 2026 French Open due to a wrist injury. Alcaraz, who has won the last two Roland Garros titles including the entertaining five-set, five-hour final against Jannik Sinner last year, sustained the injury during the Barcelona Open.
Subsequent scans revealed that the injury was more serious than initially suspected, with Alcatraz confirming his exit from two tournaments via a post on X.

“After the results of the tests carried out today, we have decided that the most prudent thing is to be cautious and not participate in Rome and Roland Garros, while we wait to assess the evolution to decide when we will return to the court. It’s a complicated moment for me, but I’m sure we’ll come out stronger from here,” he wrote.
His absence from Madrid marks back-to-back years missing his home Masters event, following prior lower-body injuries in 2025. Alcaraz was previously seen wearing a wrist splint. However, the recovery process is now expected to last at least 1-3 weeks, which confirms his exit from the French Open.
Since the 2023 US Open (won by Novak Djokovic), Alcaraz and Sinner have combined to win nine consecutive Grand Slam titles. The pair have also contested six Grand Slam finals, including three in 2025 alone.
The injury comes at a difficult time considering Alcaraz has been in prime form of late. He won the 2026 Australian Open, becoming the youngest player to complete a career Grand Slam, and had won back-to-back Grand Slam titles heading into the clay season.
His absence significantly alters the competitive landscape at Roland-Garros. Sinner, who recently defeated Alcaraz at the Monte-Carlo Masters to reclaim the ATP No. 1 ranking, will now enter the tournament as the primary favorite.
Notably, the French Open remains the only Grand Slam missing from Sinner’s resume.
