Canadiens’ Cole Caufield, Nick Suzuki react to winning Selke, Lady Byng
The Montreal Canadiens had a great season, and Nick Suzuki won the Selke Trophy, while Cole Caufield won the Lady Byng. Both reacted to winning their respective trophies and the season they just had, according to a recap by Jon Lane of NHL.com.
“I kind of got tricked into not knowing what was going on today. It’s an individual award that comes with all the team aspects of things, and all your great teammates and coaches and everything that comes along with it,” Caufield told Lane.
Caufield was not the only one. Suzuki also did not expect to be winning a trophy when he came into the team meeting, as he expected only to give Caufield the Lady Byng.
“I thought I was coming in this morning just for our meeting and to present Cole with the Lady Bynd. I didn’t expect that at all, after. You guys definitely tricked both of us. Pretty surreal right now, really honored to be selected for the award,” Suzuki added.
Caufield finished with 51 goals and 88 total points, while Suzuki had 29 goals and 101 total points. Both proved electric on the first line, as they helped the Habs reach the Eastern Conference Finals. Although Suzuki struggled in the Eastern Conference Finals, his play throughout the season proved too good to ignore.
Suzuki and Caufield will press the Canadiens forward, and their uptick in production has made this team a threat for years to come. If both can continue producing, then this team might return to the Stanley Cup for the first time since 2021, and possibly win for the first time since 1993.
