Bucks rumors: Giannis Antetokounmpo’s brothers a key source of beef

The Milwaukee Bucks recently pulled the plug on the Giannis Antetokounmpo era by sending the star to the Miami Heat. In return, the Bucks received a package headlined by Tyler Herro, draft picks, and some other young players.

Now, more information is coming to light on how things started to sour between Giannis and the Bucks over the years, including the team’s relationship with his brothers Alex and Thanasis, each of whom has suited up for Milwaukee in the past.

Recently, Jim Owczarski of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported that when the Bucks signed Alex Antetokounmpo in 2025, it “bothered (Doc) Rivers and other coaches, as they felt the organization had bowed too much to appease their star player. To them, Antetokounmpo wanted things both ways,” he reported.

Indeed, many fans around the NBA felt the same way about Giannis over the last few years as he played a bizarre but not particularly clever game of seeming to want out of Milwaukee, then reiterating his commitment, and repeating the cycle. This reached a head at the 2026 NBA trade deadline, when virtually the entire NBA world thought a deal would finally be reached to send Giannis to a new home, but he ended up staying put and posting about his commitment to the Bucks on social media, only to now be traded a few months later.

Now, the Bucks are no longer in the Antetokounmpo business and will instead focus on developing some of their younger talent, which now includes Brayden Burries after they selected him at number ten overall in the 2026 NBA Draft.

The Bucks will next look ahead to free agency, which is slated to open for business on June 30.
