On Monday night, the Milwaukee Bucks finally completed a blockbuster trade of Giannis Antetokounmpo, sending the future Hall of Fame big man to the Miami Heat. Rumors had been swirling for quite some time, with both the Heat and Boston Celtics reportedly in the mix.

Ultimately, South Beach proved to be Giannis’ destination.

On Tuesday, NFL Insider Adam Schefter likened the trade to that of Myles Garrett.

Jimmy Haslem is the owner of both the Milwaukee Bucks and the Cleveland Browns. So, in just over three weeks, he traded away two of the best players in each sport. While that may prove to earn criticism from fans, Schefter had an entirely different take on his podcast.

“Think about the last month for Jimmy Haslem,” Schefter began.

“In literally 22 days, he traded Myles Garrett, and he traded Giannis Antetokounmpo… In both cases, Jimmy Haslem had a disgruntled star who wanted out, who he felt like he had to deal. And in both cases, I think they got back a whole lot of compensation.

“I know people like to rip on the Haslem’s, and that’s fine. But you cannot, in my mind, criticize either one of these deals. You cannot question the return the Haslem’s got Myles Garrett or Giannis Antetokounmpo.”

Schefter may not have a reputation for knowing pro basketball the way he does with pro football, but it is hard to argue his point.

The Bucks received Tyler Herro, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kel’el Ware, Kasparas Jakucionis, and a slew of draft picks. The picks include the 13th overall pick in Tuesday night’s NBA Draft, with first-round picks in 2031, and 2033. The Bucks also received a pick-swap in 2030 and a second-rounder in 2033.

As Schefter pointed out, those picks may prove to be very useful. By that time, Antetokounmpo will be nearing his late-30s. He will have played almost 20 years in the NBA. The Heat championship window will in all likelihood be closed by then, turning those picks into potential lottery selections.

Similarly, the Browns landed quite the haul for Garrett. They got back Jared Verse, who is an upper-echelon edge rusher, and a slew of draft capital as well.
