Bryson Graham hires right-hand man away from Magic

On Thursday, the Chicago Bulls added two new faces to their Bryson Graham-led front office. First, they hired former Oklahoma City Thunder and Brooklyn Nets executive Acie Law as the Director of Player Personnel. Then, they brought on Orlando Magic executive Stephen Mervis as the Senior Vice President of Basketball Operations, per Shams Charania of ESPN.

Mervis was the assistant General Manager for the Magic. He spent 12 years with the organization, including a stint as VP of Basketball Strategy and Evaluation. Mervis was responsible for salary cap management, strategic planning, and collective bargaining. He arrived in Orlando in 2014 after interning with the Indiana Pacers, who reached the Eastern Conference Finals.

Altogether, Graham has brought on two executives who have a hand in building playoff-worthy teams and, in Law’s case, cultivating the roster that led the Thunder to the 2025 NBA title.

It’s been a busy offseason for the Bulls. Graham was hired on May 4, following the firings of VP Arturas Karnisovas and GM Marc Eversley in April. Not too long after, Billy Donovan stepped down after six seasons as head coach.

So far, Graham has struck a different tone. He is laser-focused on the draft, exploring trade possibilities, and emphasizing rebuilding for the long haul.

The Bulls will have the No. 4 pick in the NBA Draft and another top-15 pick waiting in the weeks ahead.

Also, Graham released Windy City Bulls General Manager Josh Malone from the NBA G League.

Meanwhile, Graham is still on the hunt for a new coach.
