Broadcast legend Danny Kelly announces he is taking a break as he reveals cancer diagnosis
Much-loved talkSPORT host Danny Kelly will be stepping away from broadcasting whilst he undergoes treatment for throat cancer.
Kelly, who has been part of the team here at talkSPORT since 2007, announced the news on-air on Wednesday afternoon.

A veteran of the station, the 69-year-old presents the popular Trans-Europe Express on Sunday nights and is a regular face on Hawksbee and Jacobs.
But whilst he undergoes treatment for cancer, he will be taking a break from all broadcasting for a little while.
A talkSPORT legend
Kelly has been with talkSPORT since 2007 and has covered almost every timeslot on the network.
The avid Tottenham fan’s career on talkSPORT began on the Evening Kick Off show, which was in its early years at the time.
During Euro 2008, Kelly was a regular, leading to a permanent role at the radio station.
Ever since, he has been integral to talkSPORT’s growth where his passion and intelligence delighted the nation where one of his most memorable moments came against rivals Arsenal in 2008 when he was presenting alongside Stan Collymore.
He has never been afraid to let listeners know where his allegiances lie and, when Aaron Lennon equalised in the dying moments to make it 4-4 in all-time classic, he screamed: “I love football, Stan, I love it!”
Reflecting on the moment later on, he told Spurs’ official monthly magazine: “I was watching the game intently in the studio, when Modric hit a thunderous shot and Lennon tapped in the equaliser. Of course, I’m off – I don’t care.
“I leapt up into the air so high that I had extended the entire wire of my headphones and bounced back down into my seat. That’s no mean feat considering I am a big man!”
He now hosts the much loved Trans Europe Express show every Sunday night from 9pm as well as Hawksbee & Jacobs Monday regular dissecting the weekend’s football.

In addition to his radio work, Kelly is a well-renowned journalist best known for editing the music and pop culture magazine NME from the late 1980s until 1992, as well as Q magazine.
He has also written for The Times and hosts Spurs podcast, View from the Lane.
Everyone at talkSPORT wishes Danny the best with his treatment and hopes he will be back on the air very soon.
