The Real Madrid superstar has scored in all three games for Carlo Ancelotti’s side, including a brace in Miami against Scotland in his most recent outing, to silence any critics questioning his record for Brazil, with only Messi having scored more at this World Cup than the 25-year-old.

Japan also navigated their way through the group stage undefeated, sandwiching a 4-0 thrashing of Tunisia with draws against European opposition in the Netherlands and Sweden to secure a second place finish behind the Dutch.

Hajime Moriyasu’s side are undefeated in any competition since September, a run of fixtures which includes a victory against Brazil back in October, though that did come in Tokyo, and a very different atmosphere can be expected in Houston this evening.

The two teams have met each other at a World Cup on just one previous occasion, coming in the group stage of the 2006 edition in Germany, when Brazil came back from a goal down to win 4-1 in Dortmund.
