Braves’ Ronald Acuna Jr. gets positive injury update after leaving Marlins game

The Atlanta Braves endured a brief scare involving Ronald Acuna Jr Thursday. The Braves’ All-Star left early against the Miami Marlins with some discomfort in his left thumb.

Atlanta fans breathed out relief, though. Acuna received a positive MLB Injury update per Braves reporter for 92.9 FM The Game Grant McAuley.

“MGR Walt Weiss told the media that Ronald Acuña Jr. has a bone bruise in his left thumb but should be fine,” McAuley posted on the social media website X, formerly Twitter.

McAuley added when Acuna felt pain in his thumb.

“May have happened during an at-bat, but not exactly sure,” McAuely shared. “Weiss said Acuña was already lobbying to be in the lineup Friday. Again, X-rays were negative.”

The report paints a welcome sign that Acuna’s ailment isn’t a long term issue. It’s not his first injury of 2026 either.

Acuna sustained a left hamstring setback to start May. He went on to miss the next 16 days in falling into the injured list. The National League Most Valuable Player of 2023 eventually returned on May 19. He chipped one hit and scored three runs in the 8-4 win over Miami.

The right fielder blasted two hits before the injury, including an infield single to start the game. He scored one run and drove two of his teammates home in the 9-3 win.

Atlanta hopped to a 3-0 before the third inning before Miami sliced the lead to 3-2 in the fifth. The Braves then outscored Miami 6-1 the rest of the way. Acuna and Atlanta finished with 13 total hits.
