Braves get huge Drake Baldwin injury update ahead of Giants series
The Atlanta Braves have hit a bit of a rough patch of late, losing two straight series to the Chicago White Sox and New York Mets over the last week. Still, the Braves are in a good position overall, currently sitting with the best record in the MLB at 46-25.
Recently, the team got a big update on catcher Drake Baldwin ahead of their upcoming series against the San Francisco Giants at home.
“The #Braves today returned C Drake Baldwin from his rehabilitation assignment and reinstated him from the injured list, and outrighted C Austin Wynns to Triple-A Gwinnett,” announced the Braves, per their official team account on X, formerly Twitter.
Baldwin last played on May 18 and has since been dealing with an oblique strain. Meanwhile, the team recently got some bad news on pitcher Spencer Strider, who left a game over the weekend against the Mets with elbow pain and has since been moved to the injured list. Ronald Acuna Jr. has also missed time recently due to a hamstring strain.
The fact that the Braves have been able to stay on top of the MLB world throughout this season despite the number of injuries they’ve dealt with, which include starting pitcher Spencer Schwellenbach, is certainly a testament to the depth the team has stockpiled, as well as the coaching from first-year manager Walt Weiss.
Still, in order to compete for their first World Series title since the 2023 season, the Braves will want to be as healthy as possible before the postseason. It remains to be seen if the team will make any moves before the upcoming MLB trade deadline.
The Braves will hit the field for their first game against the Giants on Tuesday evening.
