Bosnia and Herzegovina vs Qatar predictions and betting tips – Will the Dragons keep their dream alive?

This is a knockout tie in all but name. Bosnia and Herzegovina and Qatar both sit on a single point at the bottom of Group B, and with Canada and Switzerland already through, the loser here is out and even a draw sends both home.

I have been through both teams’ first two games and the permutations, and I am siding with Bosnia to get the win they need in Seattle.

A victory for either side lifts them to four points, third place in the group and a genuine shot at sneaking through as one of the eight best third-placed finishers.

Bosnia hold the better goal difference and, on paper, the superior squad through the evergreen Edin Dzeko, while Qatar arrive on the back of a 6-0 hammering by Canada and have still never won a World Cup match.

Something has to give, and I expect the Dragons to come out on top.

My three favourite bets for this one:

Bosnia and Herzegovina vs Qatar head to head overview

  • Date: Wednesday 24 June 2026
  • Kick-off: 8pm UK time
  • Venue: Lumen Field, Seattle, USA
  • Where to watch: ITV4 and ITVX
  • Referee: Jesus Valenzuela (Venezuela)
  • Last meeting: a 2010 friendly that finished 1-1
  • Last 10 matches: the sides have met only twice, both friendlies, with no competitive history
  • Favourite to win: Bosnia and Herzegovina at 4/9

Bosnia and Herzegovina vs Qatar predicted lineups

Bosnia are without Tarik Muharemovic, sent off against Switzerland, with Nihad Mujakic expected to come in at the back. Otherwise Sergej Barbarez has a clean bill of health and builds the side around captain Edin Dzeko.

Qatar are in worse shape, missing the suspended Assim Madibo and Homam El-Amin after their red cards against Canada, with Almoez Ali pushing to lead the line in place of the misfiring Yusuf Abdurisag.

  • Bosnia and Herzegovina expected lineup: Vasilj; Dedic, Katic, Mujakic, Kolasinac; Memic, Tahirovic, Sunjic, Alajbegovic; Demirovic, Dzeko.
  • Qatar expected lineup: Abunada; Al-Oui, Miguel, Khoukhi, Al-Brake; Fathy, Gaber, Laye; Junior, Almoez Ali, Afif.

Bosnia and Herzegovina vs Qatar predictions

Bosnia were excellent value in their opener, holding Canada to a 1-1 draw with a disciplined defensive display, but they fell apart late against Switzerland, conceding four times in the final 16 minutes of a 4-1 defeat, three of them after Muharemovic was sent off.

That ended a nine-game unbeaten run and dented their goal difference, but the quality and experience in this squad, led by Dzeko, still makes them clear favourites here.

Qatar, by contrast, look there for the taking. A creditable 1-1 draw with Switzerland flattered them, and they were brutally exposed by Canada, shipping six goals and finishing with nine men. No team at this World Cup has conceded more shots or a higher expected goals figure, and they have never won a game at the tournament.

Without two suspended players and against a Bosnia side that has to throw everything forward, I expect them to fall short again. Bosnia are not the most prolific outfit, having failed to score more than once in any of their last seven, so I see a controlled win rather than a rout.

I am going for a 2-0 Bosnia and Herzegovina victory.

Bosnia and Herzegovina vs Qatar betting tips

I have gone for three angles built around a Bosnia win in a tense, niggly game that does not turn into a goal glut. Have a read through my picks below.

Dragons to get the job done without the floodgates opening

Bosnia have the experience, the quality and far more reasons to believe than a Qatar side that was dismantled by Canada and remains without a World Cup win in its history.

The Dragons have not scored more than once in any of their last seven matches, though, so rather than a thrashing I expect a controlled, professional win that keeps the goal count sensible.

Tempers set to fray in a win-or-bust scrap

With both nations facing elimination and everything riding on 90 minutes, this has all the ingredients of a fractious, physical contest.

Group B has already produced three red cards involving these two teams, and referee Jesus Valenzuela is a strict official who averages close to five yellow cards a game.

I am happy backing both sides to rack up the bookings.

Dzeko to deliver when it matters most

Edin Dzeko is Bosnia’s record scorer with 73 goals in 148 caps and netted six times in qualifying, and at 40 he remains the focal point of everything they do going forward.

In a must-win game, against the leakiest defence at the entire tournament, the captain is the obvious man to get on the scoresheet.

Important historical facts about Bosnia and Herzegovina and Qatar for betting

  • A draw is no good to either side here, only a win keeps Bosnia or Qatar alive as a potential best third-placed finisher, so this is a straight knockout in all but name.
  • Qatar have never won a match at a World Cup, and exited at the group stage as hosts in 2022, so history is firmly against them.
  • This is only Bosnia’s second World Cup, their first since Brazil 2014, and they have never reached the knockout rounds.
  • Edin Dzeko, 40, is Bosnia’s all-time record scorer with 73 goals in 148 caps and one of the oldest outfield players at the tournament.
  • Qatar were the worst-performing defence of the group stage, conceding a tournament-high 58 shots and 7.80 expected goals across their two games.
  • Referee Jesus Valenzuela is a strict Venezuelan official averaging close to five yellow cards a game, who took charge of England against the USA and France against Poland at the 2022 World Cup.
