Boldest superstar comparisons for top 2026 NBA Draft prospects

Player comparisons come with the territory of the NBA Draft. Everyone seems to have an idea of how players will turn out and who their skill sets are similar to, and that has been exacerbated ahead of a 2026 NBA Draft that is being called one of the most stacked classes of all time.

Scouts, draft experts, and former players think they have a good idea of who these prospects will play like, and the prospects themselves have given their own takes on who they most resemble. So, what are some of the boldest player comparisons that have come to the surface ahead of the 2026 NBA Draft?

NBA Draft prospects give themselves player comparisons

While scouts and draft experts can watch loads of game tape to try to diagnose how players will turn out at the NBA level, it is impossible to truly gauge how a player will translate to professional ball. After all, premier prospects turn into draft busts and unheralded players pan out to become stars all the time.

Every prospect has confidence in their abilities and believes they can become a great NBA player, and although that doesn’t always happen, they at least know their own skill sets better than anyone else. The top prospects in the 2026 NBA Draft were asked who they model their game after, and the answers are below.

AJ Dybantsa: Tracy McGrady

Darius Acuff Jr.: Derrick Rose

Darryn Peterson: Devin Booker

Cameron Boozer: Anthony Davis

Bennett Stirtz: Jamal Murray

Labaron Philon: Stephem Curry, Kyrie Irving, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander

Kingston Flemings: Tyrese Maxey, Derrick Rose, De’Aaron Fox

Karim Lopez: Jalen Johnson

Chris Cenax Jr.: Anthony Davis, Jaren Jackson Jr.

Aday Mara: Pau Gasol, Marc Gasol

Cameron Carr: Russell Westbrook

Brayden Burries: Devin Booker, Jamal Murray

Morez Johnson Jr.: Giannis Antetokounmpo, Bam Adebayo

Caleb Wilson: Kobe Bryant

It is clear that some of these players model their game after legends of old. Dybantsa, the projected number one pick, is a freaky athlete who thrives in transition but can also get a bucket in the half-court. His game and frame are reminiscent of McGrady. Darius Acuff Jr. has the downhill tenacity of Derrick Rose in his prime, and Darryn Peterson’s three-level scoring ability is similar to Devin Booker’s. On the other end of the spectrum, Caleb Wilson, a power forward, compared himself to Kobe Bryant, one of the greatest shooting guards of all time. Wilson does have an advanced offensive game for a big man. He can, in fact, operate on the perimeter and do guard-like things that most fours can’t do. Still, a comparison to Bryant stood out.

Craziest comparisons around the draft community

Draymond Green’s comparison for Caleb Wilson

Draymond Green is still active for the Golden State Warriors, although he could become a free agent this offseason. He has started to embrace his future as a basketball talking head, though. Green, a power forward, has crazy high expectations for Wilson, a fellow four man.

“Caleb Wilson is so good, and I think he’s still clumsy,” Green said. “I think he’s so clumsy that he can’t really walk and chew gum at the same time. And yet, he’s already that good right now. So, if that guy is still clumsy and he’s that good right now, man, what happens if he continues to grow into his body and he ain’t clumsy no more? No disrespect to KG. I think KG might be a top-three power forward we’ve seen in our lifetime. KG has tenacity, all of that… Barring that, if he goes to do the work, the type of talent that he is, I actually think his floor is Kevin Garnett.”

The flashes of Garnett are evident with Wilson. They have similarly lanky builds. Both players are/were also fluid movers who could run in transition, put the ball on the floor, and hit jump shots. That is all on top of having shot blocking instincts. Even so, saying Wilson’s floor or bottom tier outcome is that of not only one of the best power forwards ever, but one of the best players in NBA history, seems overzealous. This is especially true when saying that the kid still can’t walk and chew gum at the same time.

Cameron Boozer is the number one prospect on The Ringer’s big board

The 2026 NBA Draft is incredibly talented at the top. The top four of Dybantsa, Peterson, Boozer, and Wilson form one of the most stacked top fours ever. While Boozer could go number one in a number of draft classes, Dybantsa and Peterson have separated themselves from the rest of the pack this year.

Boozer became just the fifth freshman ever to win national college player of the year honors. He can score inside or outside, is a stellar rebounder, and can facilitate to his teammates. However, some think he is a tweener on defense and that his limited athletic abilities will hold him back. Despite this, J. Kyle Mann of The Ringer has Boozer ranked as the top prospect in this class. Danny Chau sees shades of Tim Duncan in his game. While both players are fundamentally sound on offense, Boozer’s defense isn’t close to that of Duncan’s.

Thestrick.land has a disrespectful comparison for Darryn Peterson

Draft fans can happen upon some weird comparisons when scouring the internet. Thestrick.land gave high, medium, and low comparisons for the top prospects, and Peterson’s were perhaps the weirdest. His high-end comparison was the Jesus Shuttlesworth version of Ray Allen, and in the middle was Anthony Meh-dwards, or a mediocre version of the player nicknamed Ant Man. The low-end comparison was uber disrespectful, though, as the site called Peterson “Kramps Kyle Korver.”

Peterson struggled with cramping issues at Kansas, which he blamed on creatine usage. While the hope is that Peterson’s health won’t be an issue at the next level, even if he continues to deal with cramping problems, his game isn’t similar to Korver’s. Korver was a mere catch-and-shoot threat who didn’t provide much else. Peterson, meanwhile, is engaged defensively and can score from all three levels. He particularly thrives with the basketball in his hands as a self-creator.
