Blues sign Dylan Holloway to $38.75 million extension

The St Louis Blues missed the Stanley Cup Playoffs this year, but that hasn’t stopped them from making news. On Friday, they announced a new contract for a key young player on the team. The Blues have signed forward Dylan Holloway to a five-year contract extension worth $7.75 million per season.

Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman then confirmed the payday, which totals $38.75 million for the 25-year-old. He was set to be a restricted free agent, with this deal taking him through the 2030-31 season and into unrestricted free agency after that. It includes a 20-team no-trade list in Year 4 and a 15-team no-trade list in Year 5, per Puckpedia.

Holloway was drafted by the Edmonton Oilers and played his first 89 games there. Blue’s general manager, Doug Armstrong, picked up Holloway and defenseman Phillip Broberg via offer sheets before the 2024-25 season. In 136 games in St Louis, the forward has 48 goals and 114 points.

The Blues had a tulmultous season, trading away captain Brayden Schenn at the deadline. Despite rumors, they kept younger forwards Robert Thomas and Jordan Kyrou. Giving Holloway this lengthy and expensive contract after keeping the young players points towards a competitive season for St Louis in 2026-27.

Armstrong is set to leave his post as Blues GM this offseason, handing the reins to Alexander Steen. He has left his replacement with some solid young talent on reasonable contracts. But after last season’s rumors, will Thomas and Kyrou want out this offseason? Or will Steen use the extra first-round pick acquired in the Schenn trade to make a big move?
