Blue Jays’ Vladimir Guerrero Jr. drops ‘numb’ revelation about injury scare

It was a disastrous Sunday for the Toronto Blue Jays. Not only did the team lose a game to the Pittsburgh Pirates, but slugger Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and starting pitcher Dylan Cease got hurt. Both had to leave the game, and Guerrero Jr. is talking about the experience.

The slugger was hit by a pitch from Pirates starter Mitch Keller. He couldn’t feel a few of his fingers, and his arm went numb.

“I just wanted to make sure I didn’t have anything bad,” Guerrero Jr. said, per SportsNet. “Thank God (X-rays were) negative so everything is fine.”

Blue Jays fans are happy to hear it. Toronto is having a tough season, but hanging around .500 overall. Following the 4-1 loss on Sunday, the Blue Jays are 25-28 on the campaign.

Toronto manager John Schneider knew something was wrong with Guerrero Jr., when his slugger essentially took himself out of the game Sunday.

“He usually doesn’t come out of a game. He’s pretty tough,” Schneider said, per MLB.com. “I followed him and he just said, ‘I can’t feel my hand.’ It was kind of like [hitting] a funny bone, but traveling at 90-plus miles an hour.”

Blue Jays pitcher Cease also got an encouraging update from Schneider, after the hurler left the game with hamstring discomfort.

“All of the testing and stuff seemed pretty positive. He said he wants to make his next start, so we’ll just see how he is the next couple of days. We’re just hoping for good news,” Schneider said.

Both players have been essential to Toronto this season. Cease has a 3.05 ERA in 11 starts, while Guerrero Jr. is hitting at a .287 batting average.

Toronto starts a series on Monday with the Miami Marlins. Blue Jays fans hope that Guerrero Jr. can play in that game.

Toronto has wins in six of their last 10 games.
