Blue Jays share multiple injury updates before Angels clash
As many players on the Toronto Blue Jays are in the process of injury recovery, Friday saw an influx of updates dealing with a good number of stars on the team. While the Blue Jays deal with injury concerns, players such as Jose Berrios, Addison Barger, Max Scherzer, and others get major updates before the start of the series against the Los Angeles Angels on Friday.
Starting with pitcher Jose Berrios, who has yet to make his 2026 season debut with an elbow injury, the 31-year-old underwent an MRI that “showed inflammation” and “small changes to that initial injury” in the elbow area.
“Jose Berrios is visiting specialist Dr. Keith Meister again on Tuesday. His MRI showed inflammation and ‘small changes to that initial injury with the elbow,’ said Blue Jays manager John Schneider. Another exam there is next step, he added,” Shi Davidi wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
Blue Jays updates on Addison Barger, Max Scherzer, and more
Moving on to Barger, who has played eight games this season and recorded a .053 batting average with zero home runs and two RBIs, he’s been dealing with an ankle injury, but will “most likely” be taken off the injured list (IL), traveling to the team.
“Addison Barger is travelling today and will ‘most likely’ be activated off the IL tomorrow, said manager John Schneider. Blue Jays wanted to give him a day to reset, envisioning busy workload for him once he returns,” Davidi wrote on X.
Many have wondered about the thumb injury for catcher Alejandro Kirk, and while he receives a positive update, it appears he’s still a ways away from a return as he’s started to take “dry swings” and has yet to begin the process of catching. Outfielder Nathan Lukes has “started to run,” as he deals with a hamstring injury.
Subsequently, Scherzer has received a cortisone shot for his forearm issue, meaning he won’t be able to throw for five days.
Davidi reported a laundry list of updates as the Blue Jays continue to deal with injuries, as the team looks to stay afloat against the Angels.
