Bill Simmons trolling Lakers fans’ false hope for playoff run
As LeBron James led the Los Angeles Lakers to a Game 1 win over the Houston Rockets in the first round of the NBA Playoffs, there could be some more excitement from the fanbase on the team’s chances. Helped by a monster performance for the Lakers from Luke Kennard, analyst Bill Simmons would troll fans of the team, pouring water on any hope the franchise could win the playoff series.
There is no denying that before the postseason, Los Angeles was a team hit by bad luck due to the injuries of Luka Dončić and Austin Reaves, putting both of their statuses at risk for the entire series.
However, with the Rockets missing Kevin Durant for Game 1, the Lakers took advantage and won the first game, with Simmons loving how the fans are reacting and thinking ahead to a probable matchup with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the Thunder.
“I love that the Laker fans are getting sucked in here,” Simmons said on his self-titled show. “So Luka gets hurt, it’s like, ‘We’re done.’ And now yesterday, KD goes down, LeBron looks pretty spry with a week off. [Deandre] Ayton looked alive. I mean, alive is a bonus for him. And now they’re like, ‘Man, if we can just get by Houston, Luka comes back. Luka vs. SGA. He’s had success against that team.’ I love that they’re talking themselves into it.”
James would finish with 19 points, 13 assists, and eight rebounds in the Game 1 win over the Rockets, with Kennard contributing a key 27 points, making nine of 13 shots from the field, going a perfect five-for-five from beyond the arc.
Consequently, Game 2 on Tuesday night will be an interesting one to watch as the Lakers host the Rockets.
