Bill Simmons bashed for snubbing Jaime Jaquez Jr after Heat Play-In performance
The Miami Heat recently saw their 2025-26 season come to an end with a loss to the Charlotte Hornets in the play-in game, bringing a tough campaign to a fitting conclusion. The Heat now face an offseason full of more questions than answers, although they are hoping for a brief celebration in the form of a potential 6th Man of the Year win for reserve wing Jaime Jaquez Jr.
Recently, noted Heat hater Bill Simmons took to his podcast to reveal that his vote for the award switched from Jaquez in the wake of Miami’s loss to the Hornets.
“The play in did change my 6MOY vote. I had Jaquez over Keldon Johnson but then Miami lost on Wednesday and I was just like ‘I’m going to have the 6MOY on a team that couldn’t get to the last round of the play-in?’ I switched it. That’s the leagues fault. They should’ve made us vote before the play-in game,” said Simmons, per Heat Culture on X, formerly Twitter.
Fans in the comment section were quick to point out Simmons’ hypocrisy in using the postseason to judge what is designated as a regular season award.
“Don’t worry bill smart idea to change a regular season award because of the teams post season performance,” wrote one fan.
“A Celtics diehard fan who hates Miami changed his Miami vote. Wow shocking,” added another.
Simmons has been known for his anti-Heat bias over the years, particularly over the last few seasons, when Miami and Boston have met in several playoff matchups, and it appears that Jaquez Jr. is the latest victim of this.
The NBA awards will be announced periodically as the NBA playoffs continue.
