Big Cal Raleigh injury update will catch Mariners fans’ attention
Cal Raleigh is not going to flirt with 60 home tuns. Even 30 long balls will be difficult given the time he has spent and will continue to spend on the injured list. The two-way catcher was struggling profusely before suffering a right oblique strain, looking unrecognizable from the player who finished second in MVP voting last year. An individually historic campaign may be unattainable in 2026, but he can still help the Seattle Mariners break new ground. The latest injury update brings him and the club closer to reaching that goal.
Raleigh swung a bat for the first time since going on the 10-day IL on May 14, per MLB.com’s Josh Kirshenbaum. The switch-hitter took 15 swings off a tee from each side of the plate. He will link up with the M’s in T-Mobile Park to meet with the team’s medical staff. Although there is no concrete return date, Raleigh is moving in the right direction.
Seattle grabbed first place in the feeble AL West without the 2025 Silver Slugger and 2024 Platinum Glove winner, but in order to contend for its first-ever pennant, this franchise will likely need the Big Dumper at the dish, and behind it. He has already hit 160 homers and owns a .472 slugging percentage through 2,646 career plate appearances. His batting average and OPS could use a boost, but considering the position he plays, Cal Raleigh is incredibly valuable to this group.
The 29-year-old will try to immediately improve on his .161/.243/.317/.560 slash line when he rejoins the MLB roster. The Mariners and their fans hope that day comes rather soon.
