Best left-back in Premier League named – and Manchester United have been tipped to sign him

Bournemouth star Adrien Truffert has been named the best left-back in the country, with a big move touted for his future.

The 24-year-old has picked up from where he left off last season by starring in each of the Cherries’ first three games this campaign.

The Frenchman proved a snip at the £14.4million package Bournemouth agreed to pay Rennes for his signature in June 2025.

Truffert instantly impressed as Milos Kerkez’s replacement under Andoni Iraola, who has since followed the latter to Anfield.

The defender, who was part of the France team that won a silver medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics, was named in talkSPORT’s pound-for-pound Premier League team of the season in May.

Truffert, who was the only player to make more than 50 overlapping runs in the top-flight last season, scored once and assisted five goals.

He was the only Bournemouth outfield player to start all 38 Premier League matches as they qualified for Europe for the first time ever.

The left-back earned a spot in Opta’s team of the season as one of only three players to win possession in the defensive third 100+ times (105), while among full-backs, Truffert also topped the charts for both interceptions (48) and tackles (103).

Only James Garner and Elliot Anderson covered more ground than his 402.59 kilometres during the 2025/26 Premier League season.

Truffert ‘the best left-back in the country’

‘Have you seen Truffert? We’ve got the best left-back…’ Bournemouth fan Laurent told talkSPORT’s GameDay Phone-in while reacting to his side’s 2-2 draw with Newcastle on Saturday.

Jason Cundy responded: “You’re absolutely right – what a baller he is. I think he could be the best left-back in the country right now.”

Man United told to sign Truffert

Discussing his competition for that tag with Jamie O’Hara, who put forward England pair Nico O’Reilly and Lewis Hall, Cundy replied: “By the way, struggled a bit today, Lewis Hall, and I’m a big fan.

“Listen, Truffert will get a big move, and do you know who should go for him? Man United.

“I’ve seen him last season. This is not just me picking up for this season. He is a damn good left-back.

“I’ve seen enough of Truffert in the Premier League last season since Kerkez has gone to Liverpool, I promise you.

“They [Man United] are after Lewis Hall, but I mean Bournemouth will drive a hard bargain, but Man United need a left-back!”

Manchester United left-back options

The Red Devils have been long-term admirers of Hall, who still has three years remaining on his contract at St James’ Park.

talkSPORT previously reported that Alejandro Balde and David Raum were left-back alternatives to Newcastle’s Hall for the club.
