Premier League manager told to immediately resign as winless streak continues

Unai Emery should step down amid Aston Villa’s poor start to the season.

That’s the view of one furious fan after Villa were held to a 0-0 draw by Hull on Saturday, leaving them still waiting for their first Premier League win and goal of the campaign.

Emery ‘needs to walk’

Having been thumped 4-0 by Brighton on the opening weekend in disastrous fashion then lost 1-0 to Arsenal, Villa do at least have a point on the board, but supporter Luke, speaking to talkSPORT’s Max Scott, is not happy with the situation at the club.

“I’m absolutely furious,” he fumed. “Unai Emery needs to leave. He needs to walk.

Asked if he wanted Emery sacked so soon, he emphasised: “No, I think he should walk.

“He’s been let down, and PSR [Profit and Sustainability Rules] is to blame as well. He needs to walk because he’s been let down massively. He must be sick of it.

“[Goalkeeper Zion] Suzuki, he should be in the No.10. He’s the only player we’ve got who can play a forward ball.”

Scott chipped in: “I understand your sentiment. I understand that Unai Emery deserves better. He deserves better than having to reinvent the team every single year because the financial regulations mean that Villa have to sell. I understand that.

“But that would be self-sabotage, wouldn’t it, for you, a Villa fan, saying that he needs to walk? Because then you’d be in a world of bother.

“You’re [at the] bottom of the table with Unai Emery. It’s not going to get much better, is it?”

Villa ‘infuriating’ to watch

Luke responded: “It’s not like we want him to walk, but for his own sanity…

“He looked furious at [Aaron] Wan-Bissaka earlier because he wasn’t ready to come on. He must be so peed off about all of it.

“And I would be too. Watching as a fan is infuriating. He’s not even a fan of the club; he’s a manager. He’s got to be furious.

“And what we’re watching is just abysmal. We don’t look like we’re going to score again.”

A tumultuous summer

Emery might well be furious having seen his Europa League-winning squad ripped up this summer.

Among Villa’s departures were Morgan Rogers, Ollie Watkins, Emi Martinez, Youri Tielemans and Lucas Digne – all key figures in their recent success under Emery.

They have all ostensibly been replaced, but Villa have yet to see any major impact from their raft of new signings – while record arrival Johan Manzambi has yet to make his debut due to injury.

But in a more positive omen, this isn’t the first time Villa have made such a slow start in the Emery era.

Indeed, last term, they failed to win any of their last six games in all competitions – before winning 17 of their next 20 matches up to the end of 2025.

They went on to finish fourth in the Premier League and end the club’s 30-year trophy drought by winning the Europa League, clinching Champions League qualification in the process.
