Baron Davis pays heartfelt tribute to New York after Knicks win NBA Finals

The New York Knicks are the toast of the sports world after finally ending their 53-year title drought, defeating the San Antonio Spurs, 4-1, in the NBA Finals.

The Knicks made another gutsy comeback in Game 5, climbing back from a 16-point deficit to outlast the Spurs and bring back the Larry O’Brien Trophy to New York, a city that has always been deeply passionate about basketball.

Ex-Knicks guard Baron Davis surely experienced that indefatigable fervor, and he paid tribute to the people of New Yorker after their beloved team returned to the top of the NBA.

“So happy for my real NYC people. People who took care of me when I played and the people who do now. Salute. You deserve to be champions and included! You make NYC what it is! Thank you!” wrote Davis on X.

The 47-year-old Davis ended his career with the Knicks in 2012. In his lone stint in the Big Apple, the two-time All-Star averaged 6.1 points, 4.7 assists, and 1.2 steals in 29 games.

His brief time in New York was memorable, as it was when Jeremy Lin’s “Linsanity” run happened. They made the playoffs as the seventh seed, but got booted out in the first round by the Miami Heat.

Throughout the years, Davis has continued to keep tabs on the Knicks, even when it seemed like the squad would never get over the hump and remain mired in mediocrity for eternity.

But like their die-hard supporters, the Knicks kept fighting and hoping. Because after all, that is exactly what New York is all about. Now, it is a city of champions once again.

And as Davis knows, once a Knick, always a Knick.
