Lewis Hall tipped for immediate £50m exit after Eddie Howe quits Newcastle

Eddie Howe will leave Newcastle and it could turn into open season for St James’ Park transfers.

Howe will leave as Magpies boss just weeks before the start of the season to leave the North East club in complete disarray.

The 53-year-old is said to have informed the club of his decision several weeks ago, but stayed on while a replacement was found. That will be Al Ahli coach Matthias Jaissle.

Newcastle have already sold Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali, meanwhile Arsenal are pushing to sign club captain Bruno Guimaraes.

talkSPORT’s Inside Devils panel want Man United to make a bid for the 21-year-old defender as soon as possible.

The former Chelsea player made 46 appearances under Howe last year, scoring once and registering an assist.

He was unlucky to miss out on a place in England’s World Cup squad to the USA, Canada and Mexico.

Man United are expected to add a new left-back to their squad, as Michael Carrick plans to build depth ahead of a return to the Champions league.

So far this summer, the Manchester-based outfit have added midfielders Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans and goalkeeper Karl Darlow to their ranks.

Those three signings aren’t enough, according to talkSPORT pundit Flex, who began: “I think we need to do everything we can to get Lewis Hall. Newcastle United is a tough place at the minute.

“There’s Bruno Guimaraes who’s probably about to leave for Arsenal, then [Sandro] Tonali and [Anthony] Gordon are already gone.

“People are looking around the place, and players are probably thinking, ‘what’s happening here?’

“Harvey Barnes has committed his future, but there were rumours and reports that he [Hall] might have been a bit agitated.

“[Athletic writer] Andy Mitten has been talking, saying he’s someone who Manchester United like.

“We’re not in charge of the purse, but I’m saying you slap £50million down – opening bid – and just ruffle some feathers in there.

“Newcastle could say, ‘Listen, we can’t have this because fans are going to turn this place upside down.’

“You can’t lose Tonali, Guimaraes, Gordon and Hall in one window, plus Isak last season. They will say absolutely not. So for the fans, they might put their foot down and say, ‘Sorry Lewis’.

Newcastle denied any falling out between Hall and Howe following media reports which highlighted the player’s frustrations.

However, leading up to the World Cup, the youngster was granted limited minutes towards the conclusion of the campaign.

It is understood he feels the lack of game time was a factor that contributed to his omission from the Three Lions squad that travelled stateside.

Newcastle eventually finished a disappointing 12th in the Premier League, having achieved a fifth-placed finish to secure Champions League qualification the previous year.

Levelling up

Presenter Angelina Kelly added: “If I was Lewis Hall I would feel disrespected that you’ve lost your place to Dan Burn. That cost him his place at the World Cup, essentially because of what Eddie Howe decided to do at Newcastle.

“So, I would be absolutely fuming if I was him, and I would be looking at Newcastle and thinking, ‘you don’t value me, so I’m going to go somewhere that will.’

“I think Man United would value him because, we have to be honest about our full-backs, we’ve been struggling.

“Are Diogo Dalot and Luke Shaw of the calibre we need to challenge for a Premier League title? No.”

Newcastle have not sold a player to United since Andy Cole completed a then-British record £7million move in January 1995.

Hall scored twice at Old Trafford during the 2023/24 campaign in what was a 3-0 victory for Newcastle in the Carabao Cup and again in a 3-2 defeat at the end of that season.
