Avalanche considering key lineup change for Game 4 vs. Wild
The Colorado Avalanche aren’t going to settle for anything less than a Stanley Cup this season, which is why head coach Jared Bednar is considering a drastic lineup change after losing Game 3 against the Minnesota Wild. Most assumed that with the team’s two-headed monster as their starting goaltender this season, the Avalanche wouldn’t go through the entire playoffs with Scott Wedgewood in net, and Mackenzie Blackwood could get his chance in Game 4 against the Wild, according to NHL.com’s Tracey Myers.
“I think when you see a guy going good, you want to keep playing him and if the game starts to drop off a bit, you go to the next guy and he’s perfectly ready and capable of stepping in and helping our team win. Regardless of which guy it is, they seem to come in better and stronger after a break,” Bednar told reporters.
Blackwood stopped 12 of 13 shots in relief of Wedgewood in Game 3. Wedgewood had the better statistical season, but they split games, and Blackwood was no slouch with a 23-10-2 record, 2.51 goals-against average, and a .902 save percentage.
The Avalanche are still in control of the series after Game 3’s blowout loss. Colorado can take a stranglehold on it with a win in Game 4, as they’ll return home with a chance to close it out in Game 5. It looked like the Avalanche weren’t going to slow down for anyone after winning the first two games, but Game 3’s dominance by the Wild has them paying attention again in the second round.
