Auburn secure 2027 linebacker commitment over Texas A&M
The Auburn Tigers landed a prize for their 2027 recruiting class on Sunday, as linebacker Kareem Palmer pledged his commitment following a successful Big Cat Weekend visit.
A three-star linebacker from Toombs County High School in Lyons, Georgia, Palmer was among around 30 prospects who visited Auburn on Saturday during Big Cat Weekend. He made his decision shortly after the visit and informed the coaching staff before publicly announcing his commitment on Sunday.
Palmer, listed at 6-foot-2 and 210-215 pounds, is rated among the top linebackers in the 2027 class. He is the No. 505 overall player nationally, the No. 39 linebacker, and the No. 61 player in Georgia, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. Other rankings list him as the No. 41 linebacker, while additional evaluations place him as high as the No. 32 linebacker in the country. In-state rankings also vary, with him listed as the No. 57 Georgia player in some rankings.
On the field, Palmer has wreaked havoc at Toombs County. Over the past two seasons, he’s accounted for 112 tackles, 16 tackles for loss, three sacks, and three forced fumbles. He recorded 79 tackles, nine tackles for loss, and two forced fumbles during his junior season alone, according to MaxPreps.
Palmer’s recruitment included roughly 25 scholarship offers, with the Tigers emerging as a consistent top contender after first extending an offer in December. He visited Auburn multiple times, with Big Cat Weekend going down as his fifth trip to campus.
Defensive coordinator and linebackers coach DJ Durkin played a central role in Palmer’s recruitment, alongside outside linebackers coach Brad Wilson and head coach Alex Golesh. Palmer developed a strong relationship with the staff over several months, which he described as direct and consistent throughout the process.
With his commitment, Palmer becomes the Tigers’ first linebacker pledge in the 2027 class and the second defensive player overall, joining defensive lineman Donivan Moore. Auburn’s 2027 class now includes seven total commitments, featuring prospects at quarterback, running back, wide receiver, tight end, offensive line, defensive line, and linebacker. The class currently ranks around No. 32 nationally and includes four recruits from Georgia, the most from any state in the group.
