Astros’ Spencer Arrighetti tosses another gem, joins exclusive list through 8 starts
The Houston Astros are not exactly having a great season, but it does feel that way whenever Spencer Arrighetti takes the mound.
The 26-year-old right-handed pitcher is taking a big leap in what is turning out to be a breakout campaign for him in the big leagues. This also comes after an injury limited him to only seven starts in 2025.
On Thursday, Arrighetti continued his effective ways on the mound, as he allowed just an earned run on three hits with three strikeouts and a walk issued through six innings of work.
With that, Arrighetti joins an extremely exclusive club of Astros pitchers with a 1.34 ERA or lower through the first eight starts of a season.
“Spencer Arrighetti against the Rangers: 6 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 3 K, 94 pitches, 55 strikes, 39 swings, 3 whiffs, 91 mph average exit velocity. Arrighetti’s ERA after eight starts is 1.34. Only seven starters in Astros history have had a lower one after their first eight starts,” Astros reporter Chandler Rome of The Athletic shared via a post on X, formerly Twitter.
And fortunately for Arrighetti, his gem did not go to waste, as the Astros got the job done the rest of the way to notch a 5-1 victory to also win the series against Texas. The Rangers won the first game of the series before Houston topped the next two meetings to improve to a 26-32 record.
Arrighetti also improved to 7-1 as he takes a much-deserved rest before his next scheduled start, which will likely come against the Pittsburgh Pirates at home on June 3.
