Week 2 of the NFL season was a rough one for quarterbacks when it came to injuries. Jaxson Dart, for example, suffered a knee injury that will hold him out for the rest of the regular season. Furthermore, Caleb Williams and Jayden Daniels suffered injuries that, at first glance, appeared to be devastating.
It now seems as though neither player will be out for as long as originally expected. Williams' injury has been diagnosed as a Grade 2 hamstring strain. Daniels, meanwhile, hurt the same elbow that caused him to miss time last season. Last season, he returned after three games, but upon his return, he reaggravated the injury and was shut down for the remaining five games of the season.
This year, Daniels is expected back from his left elbow dislocation within three weeks, according to Ian Rapoport. The Washington Commanders did not put their quarterback on injured reserve, which is great news for a potential timely return. The LSU product had one of the best rookie seasons ever, but he has been plagued by injury issues in the two seasons since.
Washington will need to find a way to keep their QB out of harm's way going forward. Until his return, fellow former Heisman winner Marcus Mariota will be under center in Washington. Mariota has 82 career starts and 17,990 passing yards to his name. The Commanders are taking on the defending champion Seattle Seahawks in Week 3, though, which is far from an easy task for the backup signal caller.
