The offseason succeeding their championship run, all things considered, has been pretty successful for the New York Knicks. Nearly the entire core will be back for a championship defense, with the departure of Mitchell Robinson being the lone major loss. The team was able to find a suitable backup center replacement in Andre Drummond, though, and the rest of the rotation was brought back.

With training camp starting on Sept. 28, the Knicks are rounding out their roster. The team just signed Kevin McCullar Jr. and Tyler Nickel to two-way contracts. McCullar was a standout collegiate player at Texas Tech and Kansas. He has spent his two-year professional career with the Knicks, where he has predominantly suited up for the G-League affiliate, the Westchester Knicks. McCullar did play 21 games in which he averaged 7.4 minutes and 2.4 points per game on the big league roster last season en route to earning a championship ring.

Nickel is a rookie out of Vanderbilt who was drafted 47th overall by the Phoenix Suns. Phoenix immediately traded the 6-foot-7 forward to New York. Nickel didn't put up huge numbers in college, but the Knicks coveted his movement shooting and potential to contribute right away.

During five NBA Summer League games, Nickel averaged 12.2 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.6 assists. His shooting was most on display during a game against the Brooklyn Nets in which he connected on six long bombs.

The Knicks still have one two-way roster spot open. Liam Robbins is considered the frontrunner to earn that spot, but the Knicks likely won't make a roster decision until training camp plays out.
