The Tennessee Titans had high hopes for the 2026 season, but it already looks like a disaster. Tennessee is 0-5 to start the season and very little is going well for them on either side of the football. One Titans coach could barely drum up positive things to say about their franchise quarterback amid this nightmarish start.

Titans offensive coordinator Brian Daboll seemed to be reaching for compliments when talking about how QB Cam Ward has improved this season. Daboll explained taht some of those improvements are not visible to the naked eye.

“He is processing which is a good start. Did a good job of escaping late in the game Sunday in a drop-back situation,” Daboll said on Thursday, per Titans beat writer Terry McCormick.

Titans head coach Robert Saleh has made similar points in the past about Ward improving his ability to process the field. Given the results on the field, it is hard to know if those are hollow compliments or if Ward really is making big improvements.

Saleh recently had a meeting with Ward that apparently went well. It seems that Ward is at least in good spirits about the situation in Tennessee.

“Me being so young, he said we'll get up to speed, how I wanna be at a faster rate, whether from his point of view defensively, what they're (opponents) trying to do versus me. Then, for myself, just continuing to play the quarterback position in the NFL,” Ward said, per ESPN's Turron Davenport.

Ward only has 896 passing yards with three touchdowns and three interceptions through five games. That puts him on a pace to fall well short of the success he had as a rookie.

Hopefully Tennessee's coaching staff can figure out a way to get Ward playing at a high level soon. If not, the rumors could spread about drafting another quarterback during the 2027 NFL Draft.

Next up for the Titans is a Week 6 matchup against the Colts.
